4 Ways to Give Yourself Self Love

It’s February, which means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Whether or not you think you have someone special to celebrate with, I’m here to tell you that you do. Yourself. You are that someone special you are celebrating with this romantic holiday season.

Self-love is important. If we don’t first love ourselves, we cannot love others or expect others to fully love us. The longest relationship we will ever have is the one we hold with ourselves. So let’s stop waiting for someone else to indulge and cherish us, and indulge and cherish ourselves. After all, we deserve it! Here are four ways to show yourself love this month.

EXERCISE

Exercising doesn’t have to be a chore. Find a way to move your body and break a sweat that you enjoy, and aim to do it at least 15-30min a day, five days a week. It will give you a boost of endorphins, alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms. The movement will also boost your confidence. Now that’s what we call some serious self-love.

DIET

Being intentional about what you put in your body directly correlates with your energy and mood. Be sure to get plenty of water, veggies, fruits, and protein in your daily intake. Don’t try to be too strict on yourself, either. That tends to backfire. Instead, adopt the 80/20 rule of eating healthy and clean 80% of the time and allowing yourself favorite indulgences 20% of the time. You will stick to healthier eating in the long run and be happier by still eating what you love from time to time.

SOCIALIZE

It’s important to make time for the people in our lives. Relationships can easily take a backset and slip away over the years before we even know they’re gone. Make an effort to sustain relationships with partners, family and friends that you care about and you are sure to see the bonds strengthen and effort reciprocated.

LOVE YOUR BODY

Honor your body with some non-intense exercise like gentle yoga. Low-impact and easy on the joints and bones, it will have you feeling good and treating your body at the same time. Soothe your muscles and care for your spirit and mind holistically through some gentle yoga.
