Healthy Tips for Shopping on a Budget

I’m going to go over healthy tips for shopping on a budget.

I kind of teased all week on my private facebook group: Holistic Living on a Budget and Stress Management a few things about this.

So let me give you a recent story.

As you know, I like to plan out my grocery list. I gave a snapshot of my 5 grocery lists. One of them is my local Target. There are a few things I can get there that are healthy and the best price possible.

That’s the thing, you gotta do a little bit of homework, planning to figure out what works best for you, your family and your budget.

As some of you know, I follow a grain-free diet – it’s a keto-ish diet, but I take it to a much higher level. Much more holistic and healthy than a lot of the other keto-type foods.

I buy heavy cream and use that in my coffee.

Heavy whipping cream can be costly.

So I’ve checked the price everywhere.

Target has their own store brand, and they have the best price by far. It’s about $1 less than at Walmart, and even at my Walmart, they only have the name brand Horizon and not a store brand.

If you are not getting organic, which I do advise you to get organic when buying heavy cream, in particular, because, in the fat content, the nutrients and the hormones are in that. So when you buy conventional and you’re following a higher fat diet you’re getting a lot more hormones. Now, if you are following a lower-fat diet, it’s not as big of a deal, but that’s where a lot of the good stuff and the bad stuff is, inside the animals’ fat.

So anyway, I needed to go to Target to get my heavy cream and frozen organic chicken breast there. They vacuum seal, it’s the best price, and it’s really excellent. My husband and I really love it.

We take paper towels and try to get the moisture off of it, and we buy Wild-caught shrimp there too and try to do the same thing. Once it’s defrosted, you do this, and it’s so good.

Of course, they have it strategically where you have to walk through the whole store to get to the grocery. They make the grocery way at the back. It’s all a marketing thing.

So, when I’m walking, I happen to go through the clothing section.

I only shop for clothes 2-3 times a year. I’m really methodical about it.

So what happened is, I went by, and there was a gorgeous shirt, and I held it in my hand.

Sometimes that’s a refreshing experience.

Just feeling the clothes, looking at them, admiring their beauty, and be mindful and present.

Do I need this now?

Do I have enough in my closet to fulfill me and keep me clothed and happy and taking more a minimalist point of view?

This is a healthy way of shopping on a budget.

I did put the clothes back, but it was kind of cool to feel it, touch it and look at it but I was like, I don’t need this right now.

I will clothing shop again in a few months because I will be going on a big trip and I haven’t shopped for a long time. I’m okay right now.

Even though our washer went kaput, I’m skimming through my clothes right now. I have to wait until the appliance gets delivered.

Hey it lasted …. we bought it in 2006, and it’s now 2019 …. A stackable washer and dryer.

And it lasted this long, so I’m grateful for that, but it’s a significant expense and as you guys know I try to be very mindful and present of my budget and where can I start taking back on.

Where can I start being more cautious and mindful of my spending habits so that big things like this I can afford?

So that’s my healthy shopping on a budget, I hope it helped you guys.

Remember, sometime in September, I’m still working on the date, what I want to do is a big 5 Day Jumpstart on my Private Facebook Group: Holistic Living on a Budget and Stress Management.

I plan on doing something different each day. I’m going to go live each day, and there will be prizes, so for those of you who participate, I’m going to randomly pick out a grand prize winner of an Amazon Gift card – that’ll be a $25 gift card, a 50 minute phone call with me and a free month of my membership.

Now, the membership I am revamping it, so please stay tuned for that.
